About Me
I am
a 24-year old girl
who lives in a hot city
in CA.
I update whenever I finish an illustration, alternating between nonfiction journal entries (including some armchair philosophy and dream analyses ) and fiction excerpts and stories. Some excerpts are from the big novel I am working on, most are short stories, and occasionally there are poems or songs.
I have certain shut-in tendencies, hence my avatar. It’s a self-portrait as a baby-human with a twisted axis.
I graduated from a school too expensive for me in May 2011, and still owe more money than I can grasp. I didn’t take economics or major in math; I did studio art & philosophy and some creative writing. Let’s see if it ruins my life.
I love Daft Punk, robots, the color orange, bunnies, cream soda, seafood, Nocchi, Rindustrial, Asano Inio, the Anywhere-Door, and doing my best. I am in the midst of an esteem block where I feel my work is too worthless to sell, and thus am writing to convince myself otherwise. I am a big believer in empiricism. I like reading about evolutionary psychology and epigenetics.
I’m supposed to sending out query letters for my dream-themed middle grade contemporary fantasy novel right now. Here is my joke query form of it that explains my other interests and influences:
Shinji Ikari Balthazar Bux gets to spend his summer vacation on the secret island of Macondo, courtesy of his aunt Raharu “White Rabbit” Katsuragi. The solitary island is usually friendly but wants to urge Bux back home ASAP. They fear that he is the second coming of the boy Antichrist Atomsk-no-Seimei. They fear that he’ll bring Macondo’s downfall if he learns of their Stargate to Slumberland and its childlike empress Paprika Rei. They’ll use anything from the silent treatment to nightmare inception to their national Power Rangers force to stop him. But Bux will take it all on, because he plans to stay forever.
I occasionally post excerpts of it, but maybe my admiration for Paulo Coelho will inspire me to post it all on PirateBay. Let’s see if that happens.

I am intrigued by your thoughts on your choice of educational options, choosing what you love as opposed to something more practical. There aren’t that many people making choices like that these days and you may actually be on to something. Have you ever heard of Joseph Campbell? He was a professor at Sarah Lawrence College and appeared on the PBS series, “The Power of Myth,” with Bill Moyers. He advised us to “Follow your bliss.” and if you do, while working toward your stated goals and putting yourself on the path towards what you love, you’ll find doors opening that you never even knew were there.
You are still young enough to manage the debt from school, but it might not be a bad idea to look for opportunities to earn money writing, doing art, and philosophizing in a number of ways besides publishing your work, while you wait for what surely will be a successful career as a writer. You may also find that following the path toward what you love may open a door you never expected to find.
Thanks for stopping by my blog and hope to share more as time progresses…..John H.
Haha, my educational options were impractical from the start. I began with homeschooling, and have probably been missing out on chances to network from the start. Nowadays, I regret not being more practical. The hopeful 90s in which I grew up are gone, and I’m not sure I’m a good fit for the 10s.
If Joseph Campbell is the same one who wrote of the Hero with A Thousand Faces, I know and admire him. I’ll try to keep his words in mind as I figure out what to do.
